Several devices from popular brands are eligible to the Android L version soon to be released this year. Know which among models from HTC, LG, Motorola, Samsung and Sony are qualified to receive Android L.

HTC Smartphones

According to the official website of HTC, Android L update is confirmed to the HTC One Series and will be released after Google delivers the final version.

"HTC is excited about the new features in the Android L release and we can't wait to share them with you. We are committed to updating our flagship HTC One family as fast as possible as part of our HTC Advantage program. We will begin rolling out updates to the HTC One (M8) and HTC One (M7) worldwide within 90 days of receiving final software from Google, followed shortly thereafter by other One family members and select devices."

Other members of the HTC One family include HTC One Max, One Mini and One Ace but the company did not specify the models at this time.

LG Smartphones and Tablets

LG Electronics did not release any announcement yet about the Android L update and currently focused on pushing out Android 4.4 KitKat firmware to LG G2, LG Optimus and more. But users can expect eligibility based on the official release dates of certain LG devices detailed below:

LG Nexus 5 is another candidate for Android L while the status LG Nexus 4 for the next generation Android remains unknown since the device already reached the 18-month software support expiration period.

Motorola Smartphones

Moto X, Moto G and Moto E are all qualified to receive the Android L update since none of these devices have reached the software support expiration period. Vice President for Product Management at Motorola Punit Soni confirmed the Android L software upgrade for Moto X in Google+.

Right now, Moto X, Moto G and Moto E are receiving the official Android 4.4.3 and Android 4.4.4 KitKat from different network carriers such as Verizon Wireless and in other territories outside the United States such as India.

Samsung Galaxy

There are several Samsung Galaxy devices eligible for Android L in accordance to the 18-month software support. But the company has not released the official list of first-hand recipients of the next generation Android OS. Here are the notable Samsung devices eligible for Android L:

- Galaxy Note 3 and the upcoming Note 4

- Galaxy TAB PRO Edition

- Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition

Sony Xperia

Sony Mobile has not yet released any official announcement about Android L and remains concentrated on rolling out Android 4.4.2 and 4.4.4 updates for selected models. Below are the models receiving Android KitKat updates with Xperia Home UI eligible for Android L in terms of software support period:

- Xperia Z2 and Z2 Tablet

- Xperia Z1 and Z1 Compact

- Xperia Z Ultra

- Xperia T2 Ultra

- Xperia M2

Xperia devices running Android 4.4.2 KitKat as factory firmware release:

- Xperia C3

- Xperia T3

- Xperia Z2a

Older Xperia Z series such as Xperia ZL and Xperia Tablet Z are still eligible but no confirmation yet from the company.
