2 Highly-Anticipated JRPGs Announced; See Release Dates

Zack Fair in the 2022 remake, Crisis Core Reunion

Capcom and Square Enix recently made major announcements involving two of the most highly-anticipated titles in the RPG genre.

During a presentation, Square Enix revealed that the second half of “Final Fantasy 7 Remake” will be coming soon, along with a complete remake of the PSP classic, “Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII.” Meanwhile, Capcom finally announced that the sequel for “Dragon’s Dogma” is officially in the works. Here’s a breakdown of each announcement.

“Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7”

For those unaware, “Crisis Core” serves as the prologue to the original “Final Fantasy 7” storyline. Though it is set in the same universe, it takes place a few years before Cloud picks up his iconic Buster Sword.

“Crisis Core” follows Zack Fair, a young member of the paramilitary organization SOLDIER in Midgar, as he gets involved in the deeper conspiracy toiling beneath the Shinra Electric Power Company’s corporate surface. Along the way, players will get to meet some of the original “Final Fantasy 7” cast members like Tifa, Aerith and Sephiroth.

This announcement comes alongside the reveal of the second half of “Final Fantasy VII’s” remake, subtitled “Rebirth.” Surprisingly, the series has now become a trilogy, so players will have to wait even longer before they can experience the ending of Cloud’s story.

“Rebirth” and “Crisis Core” will release in winter. Additionally, “Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade” is now available on Steam after an exclusivity period in the Epic Games Store.

“Dragon’s Dogma II”

The “Dragon’s Dogma” series celebrated its 10th anniversary with a 10-minute video detailing how the original game came to be. At the end of the presentation, Capcom officially revealed that a sequel is now being developed.

Unfortunately, the developers didn’t reveal much about the game apart from a quick logo teaser. The game is built on the RE Engine, so players can expect the same level of graphical fidelity as the latest “Resident Evil” games. But comparisons to “Monster Hunter” will be inevitable given how close the two games are presented.

The release window for “Dragon’s Dogma II” was not specified during the presentation.
