Both Samsung and Xiaomi are expected to launch their latest flagship device sometime in the coming weeks. For the past few months, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Xiaomi Mi5 are at the center of a lot of rumours on the Web. Let’s now compare these two high-end flagships based on what we can likely expect about their release date and probable features.

Display

The Xiaomi Mi 5 might sport a 5.2-inch Quad HD display with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. The screen will be protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 4.

On the other hand, the Korean giant will reportedly introduce the next generation Galaxy series in two different variants. The flat screened Galaxy S7 will feature a smaller 5.2-inch display whereas the curved screen model will tout a 5.7-inch screen. Both variants will com packed with super AMOLED display boasting 4K resolution.

Touch sensitivity

Samsung is also tipped to introduce its own version of touch sensitive technology in association with Synaptic. The new pressure sensitive technology is called ClearTouch. It’s similar to Apple’s ground-breaking 3D Force Touch technology in the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.

According to a report in Phone Arena, Xiaomi might also try its hand on the 3D Touch technology. The company has reportedly patented a similar technology and the upcoming Mi5 might come packed with the pressure sensitive display. The device could also sport the Sense ID by Qualcomm, an ultrasonic fingerprint sensing technology.

Processor

Samsung has opted for a unique marketing plan to unveil the Galaxy S7 in different countries. The device will be launched in various markets with different processors on board. The company will opt for the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 for customers in the U.S. and China. Other markets including Korea, Japan and Europe will have the device powered by its own 64-bit octa-core Exynos 8890 SoC.

On the other hand, the Xiaomi Mi5 will be powered by the recently released and powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset with the Adreno 530 GPU. The device will run on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with MIUI 6.0. The newest SoC is 35 percent faster and 30 percent more power efficient than the Snapdragon 810 predecessor, claims Snapdragon.

Storage and microSD card slots

Word is the Xiaomi Mi5 will be equipped with 32 GB and 64 GB of built-in storage space along with 4GB of RAM. But there are no reports of microSD card slots for memory expansion. The device will sport a Type-C USB 1.0 reversible connector port.

There are rumours, the next Galaxy flagship will house 3 GB or 4 GB of RAM along with a USB Type C connector. The curved screen premium “edge” variant might house a bigger RAM.

The buzz mill suggests that with the Galaxy S7, Samsung will bring back the microSD slot for extra storage . The tech giant skipped this feature in the Galaxy S6 series and even in Galaxy Note 5.

Camera

Samsung will probably use the highly appreciated IMX300 sensor made by Sony for its Galaxy S7. Sony's new IMX300 sensor has been used in the Xperia Z5 line of smartphones. The 23 MP camera is highly rated by industry experts at DxOMark Labs.

The sensor sports a 192-point hybrid autofocus system and can capture 5520 x 4120 pixel images, record video at 2160 pixels per 30 frames per second. On the other hand, the Xiaomi Mi5 is expected to feature a 16 MP main camera unite with optical image stabilisation and dual LED flash.

Release date

The Xiaomi Mi 5 is expected to be released on Dec. 3. The Korean giant might launch its next generation Galaxy S series at the Samsung Unpacked 2016 scheduled for Feb. 21. There are also possibilities the company will unveil the device at the Mobile World Congress 2016 scheduled from Feb. 22 to Feb. 25 in Barcelona.
