Over the last few months there’s been a lot of leaks, rumours and speculation that flooded the Web regarding the features, price and release date of the latest Xiaomi Mi5. Here’s a quick round up of possible configuration details of the smartphone.

Features

The Xiaomi Mi 5 will reportedly feature a 5.2-inch Quad HD display screen with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. The handset is said to be protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 4 and comes packed with a fingerprint scanner for authentication.

Rumours prevail that the smartphone, which is equipped with 32 GB and 64 GB of built-in storage space, will run on the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system. The handset is believed to come packed with a massive 4 GB of RAM and a 3030 mAh battery.

The upcoming device is supposed to sport a Type-C USB 1.0 reversible connector port according to a report in GSMArena. In the camera department, the Xiaomi Mi5 is tipped to sport a 16 megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization (OIS) coupled with a 5 meapixel front-facing camera.

There are contradictory speculations regarding the type of processor that the handset will be shipped with. Earlier leaks suggested the device would be launched at an event on Oct.19.

But then it was speculated that the Xiaomi Mi5 will not get the latest Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chipset and will be launched later this year with the MediaTek’s deca-core Helio X20 SoC on board. Later, there was news the upcoming flagship device by Xiaomi will be shipped in early 2016 with the Snapdragon 820 processor.

Qualcomm has slated the official release of its most advanced and powerful mobile processor for the first quarter of 2016. But there has been no official communication on this issue.

Hence, the release date of Xiaomi Mi 5 could depend on the launch of the latest Snapdragon 820 chipset. The newest chip is said to be 35 percent faster and 30 percent more power efficient than the Snapdragon 810 predecessor.

According to a report in Phone Arena, Xiaomi may try its hands out with the 3D Touch technology after Samsung. The latest Mi5 could land with the pressure sensitive display. The company has allegedly patented a technology similar to that of Apple’s Force Touch. The device may also sport the Qualcomm’s Sense ID, an ultrasonic fingerprint sensing technology.

Price and release date

Xiaomi Mi5 is expected to be released by the end of this year with a starting price of US$315 (AU$444). But there are also rumours the device may be shipped in January 2016 to accommodate the powerful Snapdragon 820 processor.
