Several days after Sony launched its Xperia Z5 series of smartphones, the company has already slashed 20 percent off the device's original prices. That said, avid Sony tech users who have purchased their units as soon as they were launched may feel a bit let down after this massive discount.

When Sony first unveiled its Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact and Xperia Z5 Premium handsets as devices specifically "engineered to make everyday experiences better" earlier this month, the company did not reveal precisely how much they will cost. However, a day after they were launched, the Xperia Z5 was priced $844 (AU$1,193), Xperia Z5 Compact at $921 (AU$1,302) and the Xperia Z5 Premium at $1,075 (AU$1,520).

Now Tech Times has reported that the Xperia Z5 smartphones are now being sold for much cheaper prices. The 5.2-inch Xperia Z5 is now being sold at $844 (AU$1,193). The 4.6-inch Xperia Z5 Compact is priced at $660 (AU$933). Lastly, the 5.5-inch Xperia Z5 Premium can be purchased at $967 (AU$1,367).

To date, however, Sony has not revealed the reason behind these massive price discounts. However, it is rumoured that this might be the company's move following weak first day sales, trailing behind its toughest competitors, Samsung and Apple.

However, it is also possible that Sony may have erroneously placed the prices that were earlier posted. Still, regardless of whether it was a mistake or not, implementing massive discounts a couple of days after the device's original launch should reportedly account to a refund for those who opted to purchase the units early on even with the high prices.

Those who want to take advantage of these discounts, though, can easily visit the Sony Mobile eShop and pre-order any of the aforementioned Xperia Z5 handsets.
