Ahead of the film’s release, several characters in “Thor: Ragnarok” are already making their presence known. These include the titular superhero, Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Hela (Cate Blanchett) and Anthony Hopkins (Odin). Promotional clips and synopsis for the film have so far confirmed that these characters will be in the movie, as it adapts elements of Planet Hulk. On the first official image for the film, Hemsworth was seen sporting a new look without his hammer.

The official synopsis for the film revealed that Thor and fellow Avenger, the Hulk, will fight in a battle. But that is not the only Hulk-related thing that fans can look forward to in the upcoming film.

According to We Got This Covered, the concept art shown in Comic-Con hinted that the film is going to adapt elements of Planet Hulk. The upcoming film is reportedly not going to adapt the Ragnarok story from both Norse mythology and the comic books directly. Rather, the story is said to occur on a planet that reportedly has a Mad Max meets Gladiator aesthetic.

There are also reports saying that Marvel plans to utilise its next movie to bring back the Hulk and to come up with an off-planet story. Screenrant reported that the upcoming movie will see less of Earth and focus more on the “cosmic side of the lore.” Director Taika Waititi, however, has not confirmed reports of the Planet Hulk elements to be true.

But he did assure that the film is going to be fresh. “A lot of what we’re doing with the film is, in a way, kind of dismantling and destroying the old idea and rebuilding it in a new way that’s fresh,” he told Entertainment Weekly. The director also expressed confidence that while another Avenger is part of the movie, it can stand on its own.

Hiddleston, on the other hand, will help Thor search for their missing father, Odin. As for Hela, she will play a pivotal role in the film as the main antagonist. If the movie will follow the comics, it is likely that she will be revealed as the daughter of Loki.

The last time Hulk appeared on the big screens was in the final act of “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” During that time, he stole the team’s Quinjet. It was believed that he was shot off into space to fulfil his Planet Hulk destiny.

“Thor: Ragnarok” is scheduled to hit US theatres on Nov. 3. The film is expected to be released in Australia on Oct. 26.
