Disney has announced the release date of “Star Wars Rebels” season 4 to be in the Fall this year. The action packed journey of the Ghost crew will come to an end this year, as this will be the final installment of the story that began in 2014.

At the Celebrations event in Orlando, the team behind the popular animation series announced the end of the show with the new season, and also released the first trailer. Disney has also released a statement in a press release confirming the announcement. The statement also promised some “big surprises” on the show, without revealing any details.

Disney also announced that production of the TV series is already underway by Lucasfilm. The next season will premiere in the Fall on Disney XD, and an exact release date will be announced in the coming months by the company.

"The team behind ‘Star Wars Rebels’ delivers epic storytelling that has captivated fans of all ages across the globe. We’re excited to continue sharing the journey of these fan-favorite Rebels with our audience in the fall," Senior Vice President of Programming and General Manager at Disney XD Marc Buhaj said in a statement. The show was number one on the channel in 2016 in terms of total viewership for an animated series across key kid and boy demographics, with over 60 million viewers watching it.

Even though the show is quite popular, there is very little scope for it to continue on indefinitely. The plot of the animation series is based on the time period between the original trilogy and the first spin-off, “Rogue One.” The show has already raced through much of this time period, and made its presence felt in the spin-off film too.

The show is basically a coming of age story of Ezra Bridger (Taylor Gray), and the journey of the members of the Ghost crew. The characters have faced adversities and shared a few laughs, but their journey will come to an end this year. All the familiar heroes will be back this year, along with the main villain Grand Admiral Thrawn (Voice by Lars Mikkelsen).

“Star Wars Rebels” season 4 is expected to shed more light on Darth Vader (voice by James Earl Jones), and explore the lore of the Jedi and the Sith. This is aspect of the old religions has been in focus on the show for a long time, and is especially important given the direction Disney is taking with the new trilogy films, in which the villains, though powerful, are not exactly Sith.
