Morningstar has disappeared, and everyone he knows is worried sick. The protagonist returns, but with some shocking news that will confuse and enrage all his friends and family. In the end, a big revelation from Mum sets the ball rolling for a major confrontation in the future. The following article contains spoilers.

In typical Morningstar (Tom Ellis)style, he returns like nothing happened, and he has some big news to share from his adventure in Las Vegas. He is married to a stripper, which comes as a shock to everyone, especially Chloe (Lauren German), who still has strong feelings towards him. Learning about the marriage is very painful for her, and she decides to cut all ties with her partner.

Meanwhile, Mum (Tricia Helfer) is depressed about her son leaving her without a word. But, when he returns with a stripper for a wife, she suspects a revenge plot aimed at her. She decides to take her seemingly not so bright daughter-in-law Candy Morningstar (Lindsey Gort) out shopping, with an agenda to find clues about a hidden scheme of her son. The shopping expedition gives her no information at all, but a heartfelt conversation with Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside) makes her feel guilty about manipulating her son, and pushing him too hard.

Morningstar on the other hand loves Chloe, and wants to continue to be her partner to solve crimes. He does his best to help her with a case, and proves his value, despite her strong objection to his meddling.

The scene where Ellis sings a romantic jam from the 90s is a touching highlight of the episode. However, in the end he announces that the song, which had heavy references to his relationship with the detective, is actually for the murder suspect. The ploy works and they get the suspect into custody. The real culprit, however, is someone else. The duo got to his house to arrest him, and Morningstar is attacked. Chloe shoots the murder suspect and takes him into custody.

A concerned Candy rushes to see her “husband,” and it is here that she reveals to Chloe just how much Morningstar talks about her and the traumatic experience they both went through together. The detective is happy to get this insight about her partner, and is ready to forgive his recent reckless behavior.

The episode quickly reconciles Morningstar with the other characters as well. In a heart to heart conversation with his brother, Ellis’ character explains how he is trying to protect Chloe by bringing in Candy as his wife. Amenadiel on the other hand reminds his brother of the things their mother has done for him.

Morningstar later has a conversation with his mother, and they too bury the hatchet. But, he is still mad with Dad. Taking this opportunity, Mum reveals that there is a way to get into the Silver City through the Flaming Sword, which her son already has in his possession. The weapon has the power to cut through the gates of heaven itself, and grant them entry.

“Lucifer” season 2 episode 14 ends with Morningstar and Candy parting ways. The final scenes reveals that this was a fake marriage that the stripper had agreed to, after Ellis’ character saved her life in Las Vegas. With the personal issues resolved, the plot will soon get into an exciting phase of possibly another rebellion against Dad.
