Tom Holland recently revealed details about his audition process for the Spider-Man role in a recent interview. The 19-year old admitted that one of the factors that helped convinced Marvel to give him the role is because of his acrobatic skills.

Holland briefly talked about Spider-Man with the Associated Press during his promotional tour for “In the Heart of the Sea,” where he stars opposite “Thor” star Chris Hemsworth. The actor revealed that on his first video audition for the Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man role, he had interjected a little acrobatic show to convince Marvel that he is the right guy for the character.

“I basically did like a somersault into frame and then a somersault out of frame ‘cause I basically — I was like, they may never see this, but if they do I need them to know that I’ve got some gymnastics abilities and stuff, “he said, adding, “every tape I sent in I always did a little acrobatic demo to try and convince them to give me the role.”

The young star, who has appeared in the drama “The Impossible” with Naomi Watts, also recalled the moment he decided to audition for the Spider-Man role. Holland told Associated Press that he immediately rang up his agent when he learned that Marvel was recasting Andrew Garfield for a much younger actor. He described the moment when he was asked to personally audition as music to his ears.

There’s no doubt that Holland can do an impressive back flip or a side flip. He has shared several clips of himself on his Instagram showcasing his acrobatic skills.

Likewise, Hemsworth and Garfield have expressed their confidence on the actor’s capability to portray Spider-Man. Both actors said he is perfect for the role because of his gymnastic skills. Hemsworth said there will be no need for a stunt man to do Spider-Man’s somersaults since Holland can do them himself. Aside from his acrobatic skills, both Garfield and Hemsworth also praised Holland for his great acting skills.

Holland will debut his role as Peter Parker with a cameo appearance in the 2016 film “Captain America: Civil War.” He will lead the still-untitled “Spider-Man” reboot in 2017.
