The Playstation Plus service has been online for a long time since its release back in 2010. Users worldwide have paid a set subscription fee to avail the service, but those in the UK should be aware that the premium membership service is set for a price hike.

Sony said in an interview with Gamespot that they will increase the subscription fees to Playstation Plus in the UK. As of now, a month’s worth of Playstation Plus subscription is £5.49 (AU $12), while a three-month subscription costs £11.99 (AU $25). However, the annual Playstation Plus subscription that costs £39.99(AU $85) will not be affected by the hike, Sony added. Although the final figures are not yet known, Sony has confirmed that the price hike will be effective as of September. This price hike will affect all UK subscribers who own any Sony console with Playstation Plus.

For now, Sony is yet to announce whether or not the price hike will reach other regions. But since the North American and European branches work independently from each other, the US may not experience the price hike.

Playstation Plus is a game service that gives discounts to certain Playstation 4, Playstation 3 and PS Vita games. Aside from that, Sony also gives players some free games per month. On the PS4, games like Destiny require membership to the service to allow some features including PVP battles.

Aside from that, Sony also gives players some free games per month. August’s free games are “CastleStorm Complete Edition” (PS3, Vita), “God of War: Ascension” (PS3), “Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris” (PS4), “Limbo” (PS4), “Sound Shapes” (PS4, PS3, Vita), “Stealth Inc. 2: A Game of Clones” (PS4, PS3, Vita)

In a report by Gamerant, Sony has announced that the Vote To Play feature is coming to the Playstation Plus service. This feature allows players to choose which games will come free as part of the Playstation Plus Subscription.
