If you're looking for an alternative to the ongoing zombie apocalypse in "Dying Light," you may be in luck. Sony's offering a glut of great indie games for PlayStation owners with this month's PlayStation Plus program. Headlining the charge is "Transistor," the sci-fi action RPG follow-up from the creators of 2011's highly acclaimed "Bastion." Also on this month's slate are side scrolling hack em’ up "Apotheon," action-adventure game "Yakuza 4," stealth-action game "Thief," rogue-like side scroller "Rogue Legacy" and 2D action-platformer "Kick & Fennick."

The PlayStation Blog detailed the six games coming in February, starting with "Transistor," which is set in a beautifully rendered futuristic city called Cloudbank. Developed by California based Supergiant Games, the game sees players take control of Red, one of the city's most popular musicians. Gamers follow Red as she embarks on an epic adventure with the eponymous Transistor, a sentient sword and living weapon.

Available on PS4, "Transistor" has received plenty of critical praise for its unique sense of style and layered combat systems. Polygon cited an impressive review, stating that the title is not just great for its looks, style and aesthetic charm, but also a wonderful waiting for players.

"Apotheon," also on PS4, is a side-scrolling action brawler heavily inspired by Greek mythology and art, featuring light RPG mechanics. In the game, players must make their way up mount Olympus, battling mythical gods such as Hades, Apollo, Ares, Poseidon and eventually Zeus himself.

Set on the mean streets of Tokyo city, "Yakuza 4" is a story-driven 3D brawler with adventure game and RPG elements. Gamers can take control of four playable characters, exploring every nook and cranny of the city. The "Yakuza" games are famous for the manner in which they accurately convey a sense of Tokyo's unique vibe, incorporating a series of mini-games including pachinko, baseball, bowling, dating, table tennis and more. The game is available on PS3.

"Thief," the other game available for PS3, was developed by Eidos-Montreal. It's a modern revival of the classic PC stealth series, which began in 1998 with "Thief: The Dark Project." It sees Garret, protagonist and master thief, return to his hometown after a long absence, only to find it under the crushing rule of a tyrant known as The Baron.

Created by independent developer Cellar Door Games, "Rogue Legacy" is a side scrolling 2D platformer with rogue-like elements. The game offers cross-buy and cross-save support, allowing gamers to download it on either PS3, PS4 or PS Vita and gain access to it on all three platforms. Cross-save means players can upload their save games to the cloud from one platform and download them on another to continue playing.

The PlayStation version of "Rogue Legacy" has been heralded by critics as the definitive version of the game. Attack of the Fanboy gave it a glorious review, allowing for a mix of great gameplay in whatever platform it is played on with the benefit of cross-buy and cross-save functions for those who with multiple Sony consoles. But besides the PS4, PS3 and PS Vita, it does not forget those on the PC, where the title also delivers quality graphics and gameplay.

PS Vita game "Kick & Fennick" is a side-scrolling action platformer from two-man development team Vincent Bonefaas and Laurens Bruins. It sees protagonist Kick go a Pixar-like adventure meeting cute characters and engaging in combat with unique bosses across more than 40 levels.

All six games will be made available to PlayStation Plus subscribers starting Feb. 3. Free PlayStation Plus games are typically made available for a period of one month.
