‘Penny Dreadful’ Season 2 Spoilers: Vanessa Ives As The Devil’s Bride [VIDEOS]
Set for May 3rd premiere, Showtime’s horror TV series “Penny Dreadful” Season 2 features Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) as the devil’s bride, based on the show’s featurette. Things are going to get darker for the brunette beauty as she fights the evil inside of her.
“Vanessa Ives is a very complex character, even though she's in the darkness most of the time, she was aiming towards the light,” Green revealed in the video. “Vanessa seems smooth on the surface but she has this fire underneath. She knows that she is kind of the devil's bride but just wait. She's too strong."
Still haunted by the devil, Green revealed that the devil sent the witches who, by the way, are way terrifying than the devil himself, to torment Vanessa and the rest of her family. Driven to protect her family, “Penny Dreadful” Season 2 is set to feature Vanessa in her emotional nakedness as she battles the devil’s force that slowly consuming her.
“Penny Dreadful” Season 1 ended with Vanessa confronted with the dilemma of whether she wants to be normal or a force to be reckoned with. Now Season 2 looms with a bigger threat with a new antagonist in Helen McCrorys character, Madam Kali. McCrory was promoted as season regular as she becomes the show’s human antagonist in the series full of vampires, immortals, werewolf and demons.
“Penny Dreadful” Season 2 also features Josh Hartnett’s Ethan Chandler as he deals with his new identity and his relationship with Vanessa. The upcoming show is also set to introduce Ethan estranged father, Jared, a monstrous man who treated his son brutally.
Series creator John Logan revealed told The Hollywood Reporter that he plans to reveal the story behind Ethan’s past and the reason behind his curse/blessing. Logan also admitted that while Season 1 was more on building the show’s central family, Season 2 will see everyone battling with their own demons and their battle against supernatural forces.
Meanwhile, The Phantom of the Opera is set to join “Penny Dreadful’s” ensemble cast including Timothy Dalton (Sir Malcolm Murray), Rory Kinnear (Caliban), Billie Piper (Brona Croft), Reeve Carney (Dorian Gray), Danny Sapani (Sembebe) and Harry Treadaway (Victor Frankenstein).
