Showtime’s gothic drama series, “Penny Dreadful,” is scheduled to return in the small screen in April with a blossoming romance between the werewolf and the psychic, Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett) and Vanessa Ives (Eva Green). Packed with new storylines and powerful villains, Season 2 focuses on Vanessa’s darkness as she bonds with Ethan who is also fighting with his inner demons.

“While Vanessa’s darkness has brought her a significant amount of mental anguish and physical pain, it’s acted as a security blanket of sorts,” according to ScreenFad. “It allowed her to further bond with Ethan and have a strong identity that differentiates her from those around her, so she doesn’t want to get rid of it.”

Madam Kali (Evelyn Pool) will pose as a threat between Vanessa and Ethan as the two becomes closer in Season 2. Based on Showtime’s Behind-the-scene featurette, the duo will be attacked with someone-or-something while taking a carriage ride together with the two stars taking a lesson with the stunt coordinators.

Written by John Logan, “Penny Dreadful” Season 2 will see Sir Malcom (Timothy Dalton) doing everything he can to save Vanessa after losing her daughter Mina from the demons that consumed her. But the million dollar question is, will Vanessa face the horrors of the world without her “security blanket” and will she ever give up her darkness?

Meanwhile, Dread Central reported that both Brona (Billie Piper) and the Creature (Rory Kinnear) “are waging battles of their own.” In an attempt to turn Brona’s body into Caliban’s mate, Victor Frankenstein (Harry Treadaway) is in deep trouble as Brona regains her memory after becoming the Creature’s wife.

Other stars who are set to appear in the upcoming season of “Penny Dreadful” include “American Horror Story” actress Patty LuPone as a figure from Vanessa’s past and “The Town” actor Douglas Hodge as a Scotland Yard investigator. “The Guards” actress Sarah Green will have her debut in the show as Madam Kali’s daughter Hecate and “Thirty’s” Jonny Beauchamp as the man with a singular past.

“Penny Dreadful” Season 2 is set to return to Showtime on Sunday, April 26 at 10PM ET/PT. Check out the trailer here courtesy of Penny Dreadful.
