It's no secret that the current generation of consoles don't have too many compelling games at the moment. The dearth of new IPs leads to a steady stream of HD remakes and definitive current-gen editions of existing favourites from the last generation of consoles. In keeping with this tradition, 505 games and Overkill Software have announced the current-gen treatment for hit online co-op themed FPS "Payday 2." The new version is called "Payday 2: Crimewave Edition" and it will launch for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on June 16.

Gamespot reports that the appropriately titled "Crimewave Edition" is a definitive edition of sorts that compiles all the DLC content and includes a few new goodies as well. In addition to the plain vanilla "Payday 2" found on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, the "Crimewave Edition" is bundled with content from two dozen DLC packs. The game will cost $50, but the additional updates and DLCs included in the new edition are valued at a total of $80.

If that doesn't seem like it's brimming with content, the upcoming edition also includes other adds-ons such as the first female character called Clover. This also includes a whole year worth of post release content such as Old Hoxton, Clover, Dragan, Diamond Heist and more. Some of the major DLCs included in the updated current-gen version are the recently released Bomb and Big Bang DLCs.

The "Crimewave Edition" will also contain additional heists and all new contacts voiced by top TV artistes, according to Gaming Bolt. This includes The Dentist played by Giancarlo Esposito, who is best known as "Breaking Bad’s" Gustavo Fring. The Butcher is another new addition voiced by Mira Furlan from "Lost" and "Babylon."

The official website states that improvements in "Payday 2: Crimewave Edition" aren't restricted to DLCs and bonus content either. The current-gen console version will be enriched with improved textures and better resolution. The updated game is promised to run at 1080p and play better due to improved frame-rate.

Pre-orders for the PS4 and Xbox One versions are being encouraged with a 25 percent discount and an in-game reward called Hard Time Loot Bag that is designed to get first time players up to speed in heisting. It must be noted that the pre-order discount and bonus content are solely restricted to the digital copies purchased from Xbox Live and PlayStation Network.
