This week, Warner Bros. and Rocksteady Studios announced that the post-launch DLC for “Batman Arkham Knight” would allow gamers to take control of Batgirl for the first time in the series. Now, the developer has officially revealed who’s behind the mask. Beware, possible spoilers for the DLC and the main game follow.

Confirmation of Batgirl’s identity comes from none other than Game Director, Sefton Hill himself. Hill sent out a tweet, stating that Barbara Gordon, daughter of police commissioner, Jim Gordon, was behind the cowl.

It may seem surprising that Rocksteady are willing to confirm the heroine’s identity, but in doing so, they have invited a flurry of fan speculation about the tale told during the DLC. The reason being that Barbara Gordon, as she has been presented in the “Batman Arkham” games, is bound to a wheelchair. In all three Rocksteady Games, and “Arkham Origins,” developed by WB Montreal, Gordon has supported the caped crusader as the computer expert, Oracle.

Fans speculate that the Batgirl-focused DLC, titled “Batgirl: A Matter of Family,” will borrow from the events of the popular Alan Moore origin story for the Joker, titled “A Killing Joke.” Over the course of Moore’s story, the Clown Prince of Crime shoots and paralyses Batgirl, setting events in motion for her transformation into Oracle.

The exact contents of the rest of the Season Pass announced by Rocksteady and Warner Bros. have yet to be revealed. However, after suffering negative feedback regarding the obscure manner of the announcement, the studio posted some details on its Facebook page, outlining a number of story packs, character and Batmobile skins, and challenge maps. It also directly addressed the controversy, promising more information soon that would provide greater clarity on the contents of the pass.

“We’ve heard from our community that you want more information on what we’ll be delivering in the Season Pass. While we aren’t ready to unveil every aspect of the content we’ll be developing, we would like to share more detail now to give you a better sense of the scope of the Season Pass,” read the statement.

Elsewhere, Rocksteady has released a new video on its YouTube channel, introducing gamers to some of the actors playing the iconic characters in “Batman Arkham Knight.” Following a brief hiatus in “Arkham Origins,” fan-favourite, Kevin Conroy returns as the voice of the Bat, while “Breaking Bad” actor Jonathan Banks voices Jim Gordon and “Fringe” actor, John Noble lends his impressive talents to the voice of the Scarecrow. “Batman Arkham Knight” is set for release on June 23, on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
