Sony might already be working on the PlayStation 5. According to a new job listing that was posted on PlayStation Taleo, the company is presently looking to hire a Senior Game Programmer, who will be involved in the planning stages of their “next generation gaming system,” as stated in the posted job description.

Sony Computer Entertainment of America even referred to the job offer as “an exciting opportunity.” “For someone passionate about gaming, this is a very rare opportunity,” the description stated. “After reviewing the below job profile, if this is you, please apply!”

Since the listing was a recent posting, it is highly likely that Sony was not referring to the PlayStation 4. It has been 19 months since the PS 4 was launched. It is only feasible that the company has gotten a head start into the makings of the next gaming console.

Plus, Attack of the Fanboy pointed out that, further down Sony’s job description, it actually mentions the PlayStation 4 by name – and not refer to it as the “next generation gaming system.” Clearly, it would appear that the PlayStation 5 is already in its planning stages, and the hiring of the Senior Game Programmer will indicate that the console will be in the works sooner than later.

The PS 4 has not yet reached its peak in the industry. That said, it is considered to be a bit early to discuss the PlayStation 5. However, the new job listing seemed to confirm speculations that the Sony PS 5 is already in the works and that it is already in its planning stages.

It must be noted, though, that this could also turn out to be a sign that the current console generation will not last as long as the previous one. The Microsoft Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, and the PS 3 all managed to last for a relatively long time. It remains unclear how the PS 4, Xbox One, and Wii U generation will fare.
