Apple is on track for several new innovations including a breakthrough chip invention and new SIM technology. According to latest information, TSMC may be working on a new chip technology while Apple is en route to partner with Samsung to address outdated SIMs and introduce electronic versions. Will there be more groundbreaking smartphones to come?

In a seemingly saturated market, smartphone markets and suppliers are under constant pressure to bring the next "breakthrough" technology without veering too much from the familiar mobile set up. As Apple continues to be under spotlight for upcoming iPhone lines, the company appears to be intent on bringing the next big thing as a major supplier confirms work on the upcoming breakthrough mobile device technology.

TSMC has declared plans to proceed with 10nm FinFET technology to risk production by the end of 2016. Mass production should follow around Q1 of 2017. If the company can push for the technology, then the 10nm technology-based chips will be faster compared to the current models used in iPhones and other units. Intel did say that their 10nmn process is not up yet for mass production say for second half of 2017. According to analysts, whoever succeeds in their production will most likely be Apple's main supplier. Bets are high on TSMC beating Intel in the race.

As for supplementary chip technology, Apple and Samsung may have started seeing eye to eye as both companies embark on a p.silva@ibtimes.com.au.
