Apple Inc. is reportedly preparing for the largest initial production for its next generation iPhones as reported by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

It seems that Apple is expecting huge sales for the next iPhone that the company asked suppliers to manufacture between 85 million and 90 million units combined of two new iPhone models with 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch displays by December 31, the report added. In 2014, the tech giant ordered around 70 to 80 million for its first large screen iPhones.

As reported by AppleInsider in February, the latest 2015 iPhones may be called ‘iPhone 6s’. The new models are expected to feature Force Touch, a pressure-sensitive touch system that was first introduced with the Apple Watch. This new technology allows the touch screen to identify the difference between a feather touch and a hard press. This can be used to enable new gestures and controls. Apple has already added this feature to the Apple Watch and MacBook laptop computer.

The WSJ said display screens are expected to remain the same at 4.7 and 5.5 inches as in iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Apple is also said to maintain the screen resolution. Apple may include a fourth color for the aluminum casing of the iPhone along with the existing list of silver, gold and space gray.

According to The Economic Times, Apple is also considering a third assembler, Taiwan-based Wistron Corp to help produce the huge number of new phones. The Taiwan-based contract maker started producing the older generation iPhone 5C model last year. In 2014 Apple mostly relied on Hon Hai Precision Industry Co, Apple's primary assembler and Pegatron Corp. Anticipating mass production, Hon Hai has been recruiting workers at its main iPhone production base in Zhengzhou, north-central China as reported by the WSJ. The Journal also reports that some component suppliers started manufacturing parts for the new iPhones in full swing earlier this month.

Apple is yet to officially announce the iPhone 6S and release date details of the device but the company is expected to announce the upcoming flagship in September if it follows its release trend in recent years.
