The official HTC One X Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with Sense 5.0 UI is expected to be released by end of summer 2013. HTC Sense 5.0 UI debuted in HTC One M7 and the Taiwanese firm confirmed that older devices will receive the latest software soon. Right now, Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean for HTC One X is possible with CyanogenMod 10.1 and Slim Bean Build 3 ROM.

Before proceeding, you need to know a few things about what will take place in this how-to-installation guide of Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

Warning: CyanogenMod 10.1 and Slim Bean Build 3 are both custom ROMs. Developers are not liable for any damages which may occur on your device. Carefully read and follow the instructions to get the most out of them. Do this at your own risk.

Requirements:

  • The device must be the HTC One X. Do not flash any of these ROM to other devices.
  • Bootloader must be unlocked. To unlock your device, click here.
  • Install the HTC One X drivers.
  • Create a Nandroid backup for your ROM and also with your personal information and data files on your phone.
  • The battery level must be at least 50 per cent to avoid power interruption.
  • Enable USB Debugging mode on your phone.
  • Disable all antivirus on your computer and on your phone. They may interfere during the flashing process.
  • Install a custom recovery app on your device such as ClockworkMod Recovery.
  • Download either CyanogenMod 10.1 or Slim Bean Build 3 ROM and the Google Apps package.
  • Set up the Fastboot ADB SDK Kit.

Update HTC One with CyanogenMod 10.1

1. Extract the "boot.img" from the downloaded zip file.

2. Connect the HTC One X to the computer via USB cable. Copy the CyanogenMod zip file and the Google Apps package to the device's SD card.

3. Copy and paste the "boot.img" file to the directory of "android-sdk-windowsplatform-tools."

4. Switch off your HTC One X. And reboot to the bootloader by turning on the device while pressing Volume down + Power keys.

5. Inside the fastboot mode, navigate to "android-sdk-windowsplatform-tools" directory on your computer and open a command prompt.

6. Key in the following commands: fastboot flash boot boot.img

7. Next, type in these commands: fastboot reboot

8. Select Bootloader and go to Recovery mode.

9. In the ClockworkMod recovery, perform a full reset by selecting "wipe data/factory reset" and "wipe cache partition."

10. Then go back and select "install zip from SD card > choose zip from SD card." Choose the CyanogenMod zip file you have copied on your SD card and confirm installation. Do the same with the Google Apps package.

11. Once the installation is complete, go back and select "reboot system now."

12. The HTC One X will boot for 5 minutes and its down. Your HTC One X runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

Update using Slim Bean Build 3 ROM

1. Connect your HTC One X to the computer via USB cable.

2. Copy the Slim Bean zip file and the Google Apps package on the device's SD card.

3. Disconnect the device and reboot it to Recovery mode by pressing Volume up + Home key.

4. In the Recovery mode, perform a full wipe by selecting "wipe data/factory reset" and "wipe cache partition."

5. After that, select "install zip from SD card > choose zip from SD card." Select the Slim Bean zip file you have copied and confirm installation. Do the same with the Google Apps package.

6. Go back and select "reboot system now."

7. Wait for at least 5 minutes and let your HTC One X completes booting up.

8. Done! Now your HTC One X runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
