Sony has not yet confirmed the Jelly Bean 4.1 update for Xperia S and owners would likely have to wait a little longer. But for those who cannot wait for any updates from Sony, you can have Android 4.2.2 with the Paranoid Android custom ROM. No need to wait for an update for you can manually install it on your device.

Paranoid Android is one of the most stable custom ROM offering amazing features for Sony Xperia S. Not only it is custom made free from bloatwares, but this version will give you the latest Android 4.2.2 features as well.

Requirements:

1. Sony Xperia S, PC and USB cable.

2. Create a backup of all personal information and data files on your device.

3. Enable the USB debugging mode on your Sony Xperia S. Go to "Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging.

4. The battery life must at least 50 per cent to avoid any power problems during the installation.

5. Your device must be rooted.

6. Download the Android 4.2.2 Paranoid Android firmware, Google Apps package and the ADB fastboot to your computer.

Warning: This is a custom ROM and developers will not be held liable for any damages which may occur on your device. Install only this ROM to Sony Xperia S LT26. Do this at your own risk.

Installation

1. Unzip the "fastboot" file to the desktop and extract the Paranoid Android custom ROM which contains the "boot.img" file then save where the "fastboot" files are.

2. Connect the Sony Xperia S using a USB cable and copy the download Paranoid Android ROM and the Google Apps package inside the internal storage of your device.

3. Turn off the Xperia S.

4. Press and hold the Volume key as you connect your phone to the computer.

5. Wait till fastboot drivers installation is complete.

6. Open the fastboot folder and right click inside the folder then select "open command window here".

7. Type this command on the CMD window: fastboot devices

8. If CMD displays "fastboot devices xxx", go to the next kernel installation step. If it shows or something similar, disconnect the device from the computer and reinstall the ADB and fastboot drivers using PDA.net.

9. Type this command for kernel installation: fastboot flash boot boot.img

10. Wait until the installation is completed. Disconnect the Xperia S and turn it on.

11. Press continuously the Volume up key when you see the fast boot logo, release when CWM based recovery appears.

12. Inside the Clockworkmod recovery, select "backup and restore" and choose "backup." The current ROM is now saved inside the SD card.

13. Select "wipe data/factory reset" then confirm.

14. Select "wipe cache partition" then confirm.

15. Go to "advance > wipe dalvik cache" and then confirm.

16. Install the Paranoid Android ROM. Select "install zip from SD card > choose zip from SD card." Browse for the ROM zip file then install it.

17. After the installation, select the Google Apps package and install it as well.

18. Go back and select "reboot system now."

19. Wait for the device to finish booting up and you're good to go with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean from Paranoid Android ROM.
