Novak Djokovic of Serbia and Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland were off to a winning note at the 2014 ATP World Tour Finals at the O2 Arena in London, United Kingdom. The world No. 1 Djokovic beat Croatia’s Marin Cilic, 6-1, 6-1 even as Wawrinka delivered the same scoreline in a straight sets win over Czech Republic’s Tomas Berdych in the group stages of the tennis season finale.

Djokovic and Wawrinka joined Roger Federer of Switzerland and Kei Nishikori of Japan as the opening matches winners in the ATP tournament. Nishikori and Federer will meet on Tuesday in London (early morning in Australia) while Djokovic and Wawrinka will face on Thursday.

Djokovic and Wawrinka were both dominant in their respective wins with the former winning in just 56 minutes and the latter in just 58 minutes. Both appreciated their own efforts especially that they have gained some extra rest as the tourney marches on to the crucial knockout stages.

"Winning in straight sets helps a lot for the rest of the tournament," Djokovic, who is now 11-0 against Cilic, said via the tournament’s official website. "But I'm going to try to win every match I play.”

Djokovic is a two-time defending champion in London and aiming for his third consecutive championship in the ATP World Tour Finals with wins in 2012 and 2013.

"I didn't expect to win that easy," Wawrinka admitted. "But I was ready to play well. I had a great week of preparation. Even if the result wasn't there in Basel and Paris, I was feeling the ball really well on the practice court.

Dominating Performance by Djokovic and Wawrinka

Wawrinka won 21-of-22 (95%) points on first serve on top of five aces for the match while Djokovic won 26-of-37 (70%) of his service points and 28-of-46 (60%) on return points. Wawrinka broke Berdych five times while Djokovic broke Cilic six times on their way to their opening match victories.
