‘The Voice’ Recap: Top Six Performs Live, India Carney And Kimberly Nichole Gave Best Performances For The Night
Monday night’s episode of the NBC’s “The Voice” had the audience tearing up and singing along as the remaining six contenders rocked out two songs each – the first one dedicated to their mothers and the second a chance to bring the house down. The top six made sure to step up their A-game and the competition only gets fiercer, but at the end of the episode two girls were clearly the winners of the night, E! News stated.
In last week’s episode, America has turned in their votes and decided to let Joshua Davis (Team Adam), Sawyer Fredericks (Team Pharrell), Meghan Linsey (Team Blake), Kimberly Nichole (Team Christina), and Koryn Hawthorne (Team Pharrell) move on the next round. The wild Twitter vote between the bottom three India Carney (Team Christina), Corey Kent White (Team Blake), and Hannah Kirby (Team Blake) ended up with India as America’s Twitter Save that night, BuddyTV reported.
Monday night had each artist taking the stage twice, with once round being a special tribute to their mothers and the other simply to wow the audience. India kicked off the two-hour episode with a song of hope and endurance, Common and John Legend’s “Glory,” dedicated to her mother Karen. She took the stage in a stunning black evening gown, and took the audience’s breath away as she turned the supposedly tough song into a soulful one by converting the rap lyrics of the song into the mellow melody of the other parts of the song. She later came back to the stage and gave her outstanding rendition of Sam Smith’s “Lay Me Down,” redeeming herself from last week’s bottom three. Panelist Adam Levine even described her latter cover as the performance that made her a frontrunner that night, Entertainment Tonight reported.
Fourth to perform and runner-up of the night was Kimberly Nichole, whose mother Gloria also had star-quality vocals showed off during rehearsals. Kimberly then takes the stage with her usual command, giving her delivery of Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin” in honor of her mother, which was at first “a little too constrained to convey the sentiment,” but a stellar performance regardless. She later rocked the house with her kick-ass take on Michael Jackson’s “Dirty Diana,” boasting off her rock and full-of-energy side at first, and finishing off by slipping into a relaxing state. Her overall performance gave the audience a hair-raising experience.
The other four contenders also gave exceptional performances that night. Joshua Davis took the stage and performed U2’s “Desire” and “In My Life” by The Beatles dedicated to the mother of his children An. Koryn Hawthorne performs REM’s “Everybody Hurts” for her mother Summers, and came back with Aerosmith’s “Dream On.”
Next up was Meghan Linsey with “Steamroller Blues” by James Taylor, and later with “Amazing Grace” in honor of her mother. Sawyer Fredericks brought along his acoustic guitar to dedicate the Daisy May Erlewine’s “Shine On” to his mother, and later to perform Al Green’s “Take Me to the River.”
In Tuesday’s episode, America has again been given the power to eliminate one contestant from the top six, while the remaining five will be moving on next week’s semifinals. Tune in to “The Voice” at 8 p.m. on NBC to find out which one will go home, and which five will stay.
