“Vikings” season 4 episode 17 has not aired yet but speculations are already doing the rounds that Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) will soon die. Winnick answered fan’s query on Twitter and revealed if Lagertha will die in the show.

Soon after Ragnar Lothbrok’s (Travis Fimmel) death, rumours started doing the rounds that another major character is going to die towards the end of the season. The last episode clearly suggests that Lagertha is the one in danger.

What happened in the last episode?

Ivar the Boneless (Alex High) confronted her about his mother Aslaug’s (Alyssa Sutherland) death. However, Lagertha refused to combat. The danger is still looming over her and she is very much aware of it. That is why she approached the Seer (John Kavanagh) who told her that she will be killed by Ragnar’s sons. Seer had predicted Ragnar's death. His prediction is expected to be true this time as well.

Katheryn Winnick answers if Lagertha dies

Katheryn Winnick interacted with her fans on Twitter. When one of the fans asked her about the most speculated question, Lagertha stated that the story in “Vikings” season 4 episode 17 and the following episodes will follow the history.

Showrunner Michael Hirst once said Lagertha is soul of the show

However, according to showrunner Michael Hirst, the character is crucial for the story. “She is the soul of the show and I need her,” Hirst had earlier said.

Hirst even quipped that he might go against the history. “There's a feminist collective in New York who wrote to me a couple years ago and they said, 'We don't' care how many of the male characters you kill off, but if you do anything to Lagertha, you're in trouble.' So I'm very careful about that warning,” he told TV Guide.

However, going by Hirst statements in the past, the chances of him modifying the original story are rare. He said in a recent interview, “I don’t write fancy. In this show children grow up, and people get older, and die. I’m proud of that. It’s about real people and real events. It’s not fancy.”

“Vikings” season 4 episode 17 will reveal more about Lagertha’s fate in the season when it airs on Jan.4 at 9PM ET in the US. The season is scheduled to air in Australia on SBS One from Jan.11 at 8:30PM.
