On Monday Google search engine giant announced two refreshes to its Google Glass program. The first is that existing members of the Explorer program will be able to do a one-time swap to get the updated version of Google glass, and the second is a slightly tweaked invite program where they will be able to invite up to three friends to become Explorers and get their own updated version of Google Glass.

The one time swap will be available to Explorers who purchased Google glass program before October 28th and once the program begins, owners will have 60 days to decide if they want to take it forward. If so, they will then have to register for the exchange. Those owners choosing to stick to the current model will be able to do so and the original warranty will continue. Aside from swapping to an upgraded model Explorers will also be able to choose another color.

Reasons for new Google Glass

But why would someone need to swap out the current eye-wear for a new one? Google, search engine giant says the new Google Glass program will allow it to "work with future lines of shades and prescription frames." A mono ear bud is also included in the package so users can receive sound directly into their ears. At present Glass transmits sounds through vibrations that users feel on the sides of their heads.
According to the same update on Google Plus program, Google will allow owners of the Google Glass Explorer Edition to invite up to three different friends into the Google Glass program. This will allow more people to try out the device. However, those invited friends will still have to buy their own updated version of Google Glass. It has not been specified as to how much these second-round Explorers are going to spend to get the device but it's expected to be around $1500 for the computerized eyeglasses and they'll be able to join the original 8,000 Glass testers.

Google search engine giant has said, those invited will "be able to buy Google Glass program online and can have it shipped to their home, office, tree house or igloo." The invitations are likely to go out in the coming few weeks. Google began its Explorer program with the launch of the gadget last year and said in its post that it was "going really well." Google search engine giant is relying on current explorers to select new owners wisely. "We're counting on you to get Google Glass program to the people you think will make great Explorers," the company said on Google+. "More Explorers means more feedback, and more feedback means better Glass."
