Current death toll due to Middle East Respiratory Syndrome or MERS reached 23. South Korea is now tightening the quarantines of the infected patients to stop the spread of the corona virus.

The Associated Press reports that there were 23 people who died because of MERS as of Thursday, while there were more than 6,700 patients who are isolated from their homes and medical facilities. Health officials in S. Korea are tightening quarantines to put the outbreak under control.

Officials said the outbreak may defuse by the end of the month. However, the number of new cases among people who have direct contact to the patients has cast doubt.

According to the Wallstreet Journal, the current strict hospital quarantine rules prevented the four children of a suspected MERS patient in Daejon, central Korea, from visiting their father. On June 3, an 82-year-old man died and his wife was put under observation in the nearby hospital ward.

The wife of the 82-year-old man was confirmed infected by the disease and has become critical, according to the health officials. The ministry declined to discuss her condition and other individual MERS cases due to privacy concerns.

The World Health Organization official said the virus appeared to be contained within the medical facilities. However, on Sunday, there were more cases likely. Most deaths were in older people.

Meanwhile, WHO has urged people in some parts of Middle East to avoid drinking the camel’s urine to stop the spread of MERS. In some parts of Middle East, many believe that drinking camel’s wee is a cure to any kind of illness as Prophet Muhammad drank wee.

Based on the passage in Haddith shared by Metro UK, "Some people of ‘Ukl' or Uraina tribe came to Medina and its climate did not suit them. So the Prophet ordered them to go to the herd of (Milch) camels and to drink their milk and urine (as a medicine). So they went as directed and after they became healthy…"

The corona virus was detected to camel, and those who were infected by the disease had contact with camels. It is also believed that MERS came from animals before it jumped to humans.
