A UFO was believed to have been sighted by residents of Portsmouth. A question has been raised if it is a sign of extra-terrestrial life or just a smudge on the camera.

According to Portsmouth News, reports going around Twitter suggest that it is a UFO. A silvery-grey, disc-like shape was observed, but it is to be decided if it is a UFO or just a hoax.

Johnny Blackwell, 23, of Trevor Road in Southsea was puzzled by the sight. He said that he didn't believe in UFOs but the sight of the object made him wonder what it was. He added that it didn't look like a cloud and that it was moving very fast.

The 23-year-old student continued that it was a grey, disc-like object. He went on, saying that he didn't know much about military craft but it was very odd to see. He spotted it on Sep. 16 at around 7 pm.

Lewis Rogers, an animation director, noticed the object while he was visiting a friend in North End. His initial thought was that it was an airplane but since it was moving quickly, he thought it was something else. He said that he believed in UFOs and was interested in science fiction and would look up at the sky often, wondering if anything was out there.

Meanwhile, Josh Harcourt-Kelly shared his experience on Twitter. He wrote:

Laura Young, a spokeswoman for and press officer for the Met Office, said that the object had nothing to do with weather. She explained that the object was neither meteorological nor a cloud.

A senior lecturer from the Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation at The University of Portsmouth, Karen Masters said that the dark object was not an astronomical one. She added that many of the UFO sightings are the planet Venus but this object wasn't that either. She explained that since distances in space were huge, it wasn't possible for aliens to visit Earth.

In the recent pasts, a lot of videos have been cropping up with people allegedly coming across UFOs. According to the Hindustan Times, these videos are big draws for social media.

One has the option to report UFO sightings to National UFO Reporting Center and MUFON Network. Apart from that, there are websites which are thoroughly based on UFO sightings like UFO Casebook and UFO Evidence.
