'Pahrump Hills' Region, Mars
A color mosaic taken by NASA's Mars Curiosity rover Mast Camera (mastcam) shows strata exposed along the margins of the valleys in the "Pahrump Hills" region on Mars in this undated handout photo courtesy of NASA. After 18 months of driving, scientists on September 11, 2014, announced that Curiosity had arrived at the base of Mount Sharp ahead of schedule, thanks to a somewhat serendipitous decision to take an alternative path that would be gentler on the rover's damaged wheels. Within two weeks, Curiosity will reach an outcrop of rock called Pahrump Hills, where the first drill samples of Mount Sharp real estate will be made. Reuters/NASA/JPL-Caltech/MSSS/

A new object was spotted on Mars on October 5 through the images that were taken by the right Mastcam on the Mars Curiosity Rover. The object resembled a monster lizard or a crocodile that was basking in the sun on Mars.

Joe White of ArtAlienTV spotted the object and he published a video with the findings on his YouTube channel, ArtAlienTV, with the title "MARS CROCODILE- Mount Sharp Monster Lizard Found Near Water" on October 15. Joe White said that he recorded the video on October 14. Since it was published, it has gotten around 100 views.

According to the description on his YouTube video, around the crocodile, there is water on the sand seeping from a rock. He questioned if the crocodile was alive, fossilised or frozen and dried. He claimed that he had found many other lizard specimens on Mars that were either fossilised or frozen. He said that the the snout morphology of the crocodile on Mars had a striking resemblance with that of a crocodile on Earth.

The crocodile was spotted on an ancient river bank; Mount Sharp is just behind it. White questioned if there could be more water in the riverbed that was hidden away from NASA's Curiosity Rover. He said that the area was chosen by NASA for its geothermal hotspot properties. He expected that there would be more water in the area that was 4.5 kilometres down the Gale Crater.

White said he was looking for signs of water in the images captured by the Mars Curiosity Rover when he spotted the lizard. He also considered the possibility of the object being just a rock, which seemed to have the same mouth and nose configuration of a crocodile. He said that there were odds that it was astronomical.

In an exchange of emails with International Business Times AU, Joe White said that he had been interested in space, Mars in particular, since he was a kid. He lives in Bistrol and works for Lovegun Records where he produces music. He is also a full-time YouTube space blogger. When he was younger, he was an artist and wanted to know what alien art looked like. Hence, he named his channel ArtAlienTV. His ultimate goal is to find out why many objects captured in Mars look ancient Olmec or Egyptian.
