The social media storm created by Filipina newsreader Korina Sanchez's blind item about a blonde CNN reporter who has got his fact wrong runs parallel to super typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) which battered central Philippines with its 315 kph winds.

Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) Update: Filipina Newsreader Skips Morning Radio Show After Flak Over CNN Reporter Blind Item; Flies to Ormoc to Probe Relief Efforts

Like Haiyan which has left the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday, bringing back the sunny weather in the tropical country, both Ms Sanchez and Anderson Cooper, the CNN reporter alluded to in the blind item have kept mum about the controversy.

But similar to Yolanda's wrath that destroyed homes and left people dead, hungry and homeless, netizens refused to keep silent over the can of worms the controversial remarks made by continuing their strongly worded comments, mostly against the ABC-CBN newsreader-cum-wife of Interior Secretary Mar Roxas.

Mr Cooper, when asked by CNN correspondents about the furor created by his Tacloban reports, acknowledged that Mr Roxas may have been offended by his statement, but he clarified that he didn't state there was no government in Tacloban City.

"What I was saying ... that I have not seen a big relief effort out in communities by Philippine military personnel during search for bodies," Pep.ph quoted Mr Cooper.

But when asked about Ms Sanchez's remarks, he kept silent.

However, he continued to report from Tacloban, focusing on the health situation in the city, which still paints a picture of inability of the government to address the needs of residents.

Ms Sanchez did not show up for the radio programme in DZMM on Thursday morning. Instead she flew to Ormoc City to report the situation there. And she did not comment at all on the hubris created by her Wednesday blind item.

But in the world of social media, the issue is still raging hot.

A number of Twitter members took note of Ms Sanchez's field work on Thursday in contrast to her being in the comforts of her studio on Wednesday when she criticised Mr Cooper.

EnteRvrexWorld added, "Korina Sanchez is still trending negatively, lambasted by netizens on Twitter!"

Pata-ni-Yul.com seconded, "Korina Sanchez just proved that she shouldn't be covering the news."

Some Twitter members, however, urged netizens to end the controversy as Ms Sanchez and Mr Cooper had done, and instead focus on providing relief to victims of Yolanda.
