Time is of the essence in “Tribes of Midgard.” Encroaching Jotunns aside, players will have to pick up the pace before the eternal night begins on Day 14 of Saga Mode. Exploration is arguably the most time-consuming of activities and climbing those steep cliffs around the world can eat up plenty of time.

Most of the cliffs in “Tribes of Midgard” can be scaled by building platforms or by simply finding natural ramps that lead toward the top. Building ramps and platforms is the quickest way to traverse the environment, and this is also the only way to reach some hidden treasures that are littered across every map.

The building mechanic in “Tribes of Midgard” isn’t exactly user-friendly, however. At first, players may find the building controls unintuitive and the layout atrocious, but both of these concerns can be dispelled with a little bit of practice.

Unlike in traditional crafting and survival games, ramps and platforms must be crafted at the village. Speak with Eyrun the Tinker and have her make the desired amount of buildable objects before setting off into the wilds.

Once the building pieces are acquired, enter build mode by pressing the “C” key on PC and scroll the mouse wheel until the desired buildable is selected. This will cause a grid view to appear as well as a preview of the selected buildable.

Platform floors are simple to place, but ramps are less so. Many players find placing ramps hard due to the difficulties in estimating a cliff’s height and the number of ramps needed to reach the top.

One easy way to build ramps leading up cliffs is by starting at the base of a cliff and counting grid squares in increments of three. Most of the time, players will need three ramps to climb cliffs, so start by placing one ramp nine blocks away from a cliff’s base then continue building until a solid platform is built.

Keep in mind that the large canyon walls separating highland biomes from everywhere else cannot be climbed as they exceed the maximum allowable building height. These areas can only be entered via a tunnel entrance.
