A video of an elephant cleaning up people’s trash caught on CCTV has gone viral on YouTube. Titled “Elephant caught on CCTV cleaning up the trash,” the video has been viewed more than 1.5 million times since it was published on Dec. 10.

“What this elephant does will blow your mind. If they can do it, why can’t we,” the description of the video reads. While most of the comments the video received are positive, one of the commenters who claimed to be a feminist and a “self-qualified biologist” suggested that the elephant did such a feat because she was female.

The commenter wrote, “If this was a male elephant, it would have knocked over the trash can and raped the first elephant it saw, male or female.”

Meanwhile, over 100 activists gathered on the U.S. Capitol lawn on Dec. 16, Tuesday to protest against the inhumane treatment of elephants, particularly their involvement in circuses. Dressed in grey sweatshirts, the protesters laid down in the shape of an elephant in 35-degree weather for almost an hour.

One of them is 35-year-old People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) employee who introduced himself to US News as Dan Carron. He said the animal rights cause for elephants is one PETA has a realistic chance of winning soon out of all of the group’s issues.
