Aside from scenes filmed in Abu Dhabi, production for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" also headed to Skellig Michael island. It's believed the location was used to represent Luke Skywalker's refuge for his self-induced exile following the events of "Return of the Jedi." However, a new report suggests the island location, with its lush greenery and stone structures, was also used as an alternate base for the rebel fighters.

Jason Ward over at Makingstarwars has some very interesting descriptions leaked for the Skellig Michael Island set of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." It's believed the island was used as "an alternate location for the rebel base" spotted over Greenham Commons. A concept photo supposedly showed two X-Wing Fighters and a speeder parked on a city. According to Ward the speeder shows resemblance to the one seen at the Greenham Commons set, although its light grey in colour with small wings. Likewise, the Millennium Falcon is also seen flying towards the city.

This city per Makingstarwars stems from an advanced society. The photo allegedly shows two cities surrounding both sides of a small bay. The right side of the city supposedly contains more water, where boats and shipping equipment keep afloat. Across the bay is a bridge used as passageway to get to the other urban environments. Ward claims the photo depicts an advanced society with its buildings in the shape of "huge stone structures, sort of like stone skyscrapers in the shape of a lava lamp." The dark brown stones from the structures reportedly have "blue trim applied in stripes down the buildings." Ivy vines are also seen growing along them.

"There are few spire structures with golden trim on them. It almost looks like a really advanced society that used to make pyramids just kept building into the future," Ward said.

Additionally, Ward supposed the concept photo for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" shows the city still devoid of any harm or signs of battle. Previous leaked descriptions of the Skellig Michael Island set reportedly revealed the Millennium Falcon leaving a castle in the city filled with fumes.

Whether the Skellig Michael Island set of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will be used as an alternate rebel base remains unconfirmed. But according to Themoviebit the location will be used as the Sith Homeworld where Luke Skywalker is being held captive.
