Luke Skywalker’s (Mark Hamill) return in “Star Wars: Episode 9” has been confirmed. However, not everyone is happy about the possibility of seeing the character as a Force Ghost. Instead, many fans are hoping JJ Abrams will find a way to bring back their beloved character in the flesh. The following article contains spoilers.

According to a report by Mike Zeroh [see below] there is a way to bring back Luke Skywalker in living form. An early script of “Return of the Jedi” has some material that Abrams can use to bring back Luke.

A scene from an early script of “Return of the Jedi” showed an interaction between Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness) and the Emperor (Ian McDiarmid). The Jedi Master had previously appeared as a Force Ghost, and he does so again in this scene with the Emperor and Darth Vader (David Prowse).

Obi-Wan talks about Luke’s abilities and the fact that he has many allies. The Emperor brushes away the comment, and adds that if Obi-Wan were to return to “this dimension” he would be defeated as well. Ben tells the Emperor that there is no entrance to the Neither World through the Dark Side of the Force.

Later a Force Ghost of Yoda appears, which shocks the Emperor. Yoda says that he survived, and so did many others.

Yoda appears again as a Force Ghost at the Endor celebration scene. What is interesting in the early script of this scene is that Obi-Wan appears in the flesh in the screen, suggesting that he is back from the Neither World.

So, it is possible for a Force Ghost to find a way to come back in physical form. This, Mike suggests, would be a good way for Luke to return in “Star Wars: Episode 9.” It will be interesting to see if Abrams chooses to use this method, or brings back the Jedi Master as a Force Ghost or in flashbacks.
