Luke Skywalker’s lighsaber will once again come into focus in “Star Wars: Episode 8,” according to a new theory. The Jedi weapon was one of the major plot points in “The Force Awakens” and was used in the dramatic climax scene too.

[Spoiler alert]

In a new video posted on YouTube, Mike Zeroh pointed out that the blue lightsaber once belonged to Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), which was later adapted by Luke (Mark Hamill), before building a new one for himself.

The Jedi weapon was lost during the fight between Luke and Darth Vader in “Empire Strikes Back.” It surfaced again in “The Force Awakens,” with Rey (Daisy Ridley) destined to wield the old lightsaber. She may now use it in her training on Ahch-To.

Talking about the significance of the lightsaber, Mike points to a scene in “The Force Awakens,” in which Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) mentioned that the Jedi weapon belongs to him. This suggests that perhaps he had the weapon with him at one point of time and may go after it again in “Star Wars: Episode 8.”

Mike believes that if the next film is to follow the original trilogy when it comes to the blue lightsaber, it means the Jedi weapon will be lost again. But, according to the theory it will not just fall out, like it did in “Empire Strikes Back,” instead it could get stolen by Kylo Ren.

According to the theory, Kylo Ren will attack Luke and Rey on Ahch-To. While he may not be able to defeat the two, he may be able to get his hands on the blue lightsaber and flee.

Mike believes that this incident will be a perfect opportunity for Rey to craft her own lightsaber in “Star Wars: Episode 8.” Building the Jedi weapon is an important part of the training, which Ridley’s character is expected to go through.
