A new trailer of “Star Trek: Discovery” season 2 has been released online. The video was first released during the recently concluded New York Comic Con event. A team from the show took part in a panel discussion there.

The video revealed the mysterious figure, which was also seen in the first trailer, to be Red Angel. This is not a malevolent creature, and appears to people in visions during difficult times. Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) will also see this Red Angel, and during her vision she will feel a sense of calm after seeing this mysterious figure.

The Red Angel apparently intervenes at the nick of time to ensure that all is not lost. It remains to be seen if this visions have a connection to the red bursts phenomenon that the Discovery will be investigating.

The red bursts also have a connection to Spock (Ethan Peck). The trailer reveals that Spock has been having some strange visions since his childhood. It is only now that he will understand what these visions are and where they will lead him to.

In the first few episodes, Michael will not get to meet Spock, her foster brother. He will be on leave, to go out and explore these red bursts. The trailer shows the Vulcan with a beard, and in need of some medical attention.

The trailer also teases the return of the Klingons and the introduction of a new hostile alien race. Captain Pike (Anson Mount) will take over the Discovery in the next season, citing an imminent threat to the Federation from these red bursts. He will get into the thick of the action, and build some trust and rapport with the crew of the ship by valuing their lives.

“Star Trek” Discovery” season 2 is set to premiere on Jan. 17, 2019.
