Besides Australia, the state of Florida is fast becoming a source of meals for alligators with recent discovery by authorities of the reptile eating humans. On the first week of June, Everglades police in South Florida found two alligators eating a dead human body.

On Tuesday, Fox News reports that a shocked resident, a senior from the nearby Florida Presbyterian Homes, saw an alligator emerged from Lake Hunter with a human body in its mouth. The resident immediately called 911 which relayed the information to the Lakeland Police Department.

The reptile was still holding the mangled corpse when the officers arrived, but when they approached the animal, the alligator dropped the unidentified body on the lake’s banks and started to swim away. They cops tried to keep the beast away while they recovered the corpse.

The identity of the dead body is being verified by investigators as well as how the victim died. It is unclear at present if the alligator killed the person or it found a dead body and picked it up as its next meal.

CBS reports that the Lakeland Police Department called a trapper to capture the eight-foot alligator. The trapper is still trying to catch the reptile.

Meanwhile, the task of identifying the body, including its gender and race, would be done by the Broward County Medical Examiner and David police who said the corpse appears to have been in the water for a few days.
