The recently announced top-tier Samsung flagship smartphone, Galaxy S5 boasts the latest technologies but is the 2800 mAh battery enough to fuel this powerful device?

Samsung plans to bridge the gap in the battery life of its flagship smartphone with three new power saving technologies that presumably increase its battery life by battery life by 25 per cent.

Today's high-end smartphones pack a ton of processing power that is actually more than we could have imagined a few years ago. Smartphones today have GPS, various connectivity features, cameras, biometric sensors and fingerprint scanners among others. However, while premium smartphones are stuffed with beefy components, the battery life suffers. As such, the Samsung Galaxy S5 will make use of the Lucid software to boost its battery life.

Basically, the Samsung Galaxy S5 will have its own improved battery saving mode, which will go as far as making the display black and white just to squeeze from the 2800 mAh battery life. Apart from that, the Samsung Galaxy S5 will also incorporate the three battery optimisations from Lucid - NavExtend, WebExtend and GameExtend.

NavExtend increases the battery life up to 25 per cent while using navigation and GPS by determining the right graphic processor overload versus the GPS needs. Fundamentally, because navigation is predictable, there is no need to refresh at a high rate which eliminates some frames. According to Lucid, the NavExtend is designed to work out-of-the-box, "transparently and flawlessly with leading navigation software".

WebExtend delivers up to 25 per cent of battery life when browsing the Internet like scrolling and reading Web pages by finding "the right graphic processor overload versus the browser requirements." WebExtend works with Android Web-browsers while it reduces the heat produces by device.

GameExtend offers up to 50 per cent more battery life by managing power while using graphically intense apps like games. The GameExtend has already been incorporated with last year's Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

Lucid's PowerExtend suite has been implemented at Kernel level, therefore, it is beyond the control of users.

Thus far, the efficiency of these technologies is yet to be tested once the Samsung Galaxy S5 hits the shelves.
