Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 Kitkat Update Now Available Via CustomROM: Tutorial

By on

Samsung Galaxy S3 owners may now get the latest Android 4.4 Kitkat OS update via Custom ROM.

Samsung still has not released an official 4.4 Kitkat OS update for Galaxy S3 handsets. Samsung Galaxy S3 remained to be the most popular smartphone in the US. According to the advertising data gathered by Chitika, Galaxy SIII accounted for 33.9% of all Samsung web traffic in the US, with the Galaxy S4 which accounted for 23.8%.

However, OmniROM brings the latest Custom ROM for Samsung Galaxy S3 owners, which is claimed to be more stable. Below is the step-by-step procedure in updating your smartphone.

Step 1: Root your phone and install ClockworkMod Touch 6.0.32 or later.

Step 2: Enable USB debugging mode on your Galaxy S3. Go to 'Settings > Applications > Development > USB 'debugging' or 'Settings' > Developer Options > USB 'debugging.'

Step 3: Install the right USB drivers on your PC for the Galaxy S3 GT-I9300.

Step 4: Download the ROM and PA Gapps to your PC.

Step 5: Connect your Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 to your PC with a USB cable.

Step 6: Copy the OmniROM 4.4 and PA Gapps files then paste them onto the SD card of your phone without extracting the zip files.

Step 7: Turn your smartphone off after disconnecting it.

Step 8: Press the volume up, home and power keys at the same time to reboot the smartphone in recovery mode.

Step 9: You can use touch controls or the hard keys to move around inside the recovery mode.

Step 10: Make an Android backup of your current ROM. Select 'backup and restore > backup' to save the ROM. This allows you to restore the handset anytime you want.

Step 11: Install the firmware and Google apps by choosing 'install zip from SD card > choose zip from SD card > find the OmniROM 4.4 you pasted earlier > confirm installation.' Do the same thing with the PA Gapps.

Step 12: After the installation, head back to the main menu and select 'wipe data/factory reset.'

Step 13: Reboot the device by choosing 'reboot system now.' Wait until your Galaxy S3 to reach its home screen.

Make sure to make a manual back up of your files and data before heading on with the update. This update is for Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 international model only. If you use another model, you may encounter problems while flashing.
