It appears that Roberto Cavalli hates everything about how American women dress up.

In an interview with Style.com during the launch of Just Cavalli's flagship store in SoHo, the 73-year-old designer laments on how American women has a thing for all-black and copycats.

'New York became like that because everyone wants to look skinnier,' says Cavalli about Americans' obsession over black. This somehow made sense to him because with black, one looks 'at least five kilos less than what you are,' and he does it himself as well.

'But black is negative, it's not positive. And it's a little more American,' says the fashion designer further, and commends Italian, French and Japanese fashion for its color.

Speaking of color, Cavalli gushes about the Just Cavalli collection which he filled with color following his fashion philosophy because 'I love life.'

'I wake up in the morning, I open the window over where I live on a wonderful hill in Florence, I see the sun, and in the springtime I love to see the first peach flowers that are kind of white and a bit pink. And then I feel like I want to put out something colorful...

'I think that should be the case with every woman-every woman should be the designer. And every woman should understand that if you are a little bit colorful, you can show your happiness to your boyfriend.'

On the statement that if New Yorkers wear more color they will not be seen as chilly, Cavalli disagrees.

'I've met so many American women who are warm and romantic and so charming. But American women, in my opinion, have to be a little bit more open-minded.'

Meanwhile, he lashes out on Michael Kors and calls him 'the biggest copy designer in the world.'

'I just want to tell him to stop copying me! Stop!' exclaims Cavalli. 'Americans like Michael Kors! And you love so many other designers who do that-he's not American fashion.'
