A Queensland mum didn’t just accept her transgender son, she shouted to the world how proud she is of him. Yolanda Bogert unwittingly earned fans from around the world when she posted a light-hearted birth retraction on a printed publication.

Bogert had a daughter in 1995, but she has now admitted that she made a “mistake” when they announced her arrival that year. The Jimboomba mum sought to correct that mistake with a funny yet heart-warming announcement in the births section of The Courier Mail.

“In 1995 we announced the arrival of our sprogget Elizabeth Anne as a daughter. Oops our bad. We would like to present our wonderful son – Kai Bogert,” the loving mother wrote.

She added in the classified ad, “Loving you is the easiest thing in the world. Tidy your room.”

Bogert said placing an announcement for their son was a “no-brainer” as it was necessary to show him their 100 per cent support.

“It is all very new to us. Kai just told me a few days ago that he no longer wanted to live as a girl,” the mother said. “I have always known there was something different about Kai.”

She added that although Kai has dropped signs about his sexuality when he was little, and it was more evident as he grew older, he never openly discussed it with her and his father. Kai was “so happy” with how his mother showed her support for him.

“This last week has changed everything for me,” the 19-year-old told the paper. “I am still me but I am more me than I was a few days ago and feel free.” Kai added that he hasn’t made any decision s about gender reassignment surgery yet, but for now, he has never been happier.

Readers from around the world have praised the parents’ move to not only accept their son, but also to celebrate his change and announce to the world how proud they are of him. The Bogerts’ birth retraction ad has been called the sweetest and most inspirational yet.
