Queensland police are investigating a new Facebook and YouTube craze wherein local teenagers post photos of themselves nude with hats covering private parts on the Internet.

The craze called "Sneaky Hat" is believed to be drawing pedophiles to the Facebook pages and websites of those involved in the craze started by a Dalby high school student.

Cyber safety campaigner and founder of Cyber Safety Solutions Susan Mclean warned that posting nude photos on the Internet exposes the teens to child pornography charges aside from ruining their lives and future career.

''What people don't understand is that a large proportion of pictures that are on Facebook actually get cached into Google Images. If it gets onto Google Images it's permanent, you can't just ring up Google and get your photo back,'' said Mclean, according to Herald Sun.

Mclean, an ex-police officer, said a group of Colac Secondary College students were charged with possessing child pornography after they filmed a sexual act in the school gym. She also said that similar Facebook pictures of Australian children and teenagers had already been found in the possession of child pornography manufacturers worldwide, according to Ninemsn.

In October, two men, aged 24 and 21, were also charged for creating a Facebook page for rating sexual encounters with girls as young as 13.

The Queensland Police have made no arrest so far but has requested for the Sneaky Hat photos and videos made by the students.

Queensland education director Greg Dickman said the schools of the students involved in the craze sought the removal of the naked photos on webpages.

The 15-year-old founder of the Sneaky Hat website told Ninemsn that he posted a photo of himself nude covering his genitals with a hat just for fun. But 100 photos of their friends making the same pose quickly appeared kicking off the craze now followed by some 10,000 fans.
