Qld gov't approves Milton train station dev't
The Queensland Government has given a go-ahead signal fo the development of Milton train station in Brisbane's inner-south.
The project was proposed by Queensland Planning Minister Stirling Hinchliffe after local opposition caused some legal delays.
Mr. Hincliffe addressed the Parliament, stating that he has approved the development but will have to expand more with a green space whiel maximum heights that may be limited to 30 storeys.
“I recognize this decision may cause concern among those in the community that have objected to the development.
“But development like this in some places relieves growth pressure in south-east Queensland and helps us protect the character 'tin-and-timber' suburbs for generations to come,” he said.
Meanwhile, a Militon resident's group opposed to the idea of a 30 storey building within the area and branded the move as “disgraceful.”
Elizabeth Handley, the spokesperson for the resident' group, said the Government has ignored the concerns raised by the locals.
“How much of a developer's friend does the Government have to be?” she asked.
“I just find it disgraceful really and very sad because, particularly in Queensland when there is only one level of government, to put that much power into the hands of one person, its just not democracy at its best.”
