Reports on EA's earnings indicate that Playstation 3 software growth has expanded 40% year-on-year, to date.

The software company's CEO, John Riccitiello, claimed that his company's software sales for "high definition" gaming consoles have grown by $1.1 billion, or 14 percent, year-on-year. The publisher asserts that it is the format's number one thrd-party publisher.

This expansion counters industry trends, which according to recent NPD data shows that the United States software market declined by year-on-year estimates in April, May and June.

Ricitiello states that "this is driven by the Sony PlayStation 3 which is up sharply on its attractive price point."

As of reports by Sony last month, it has shipped 38.1 million PlayStation 3 consoles to date.
