In the relatively small field of pure horror video games, several of BioShock and Dead Space’s former developers set out to provide a new experience. In 2015, “Perception” was announced, but that game has finally been confirmed for the PlayStation 4 via its publisher, Feardemic.

The game follows a young woman named Cassie, who is blind and tasked with exploring an old abandoned mansion. The home is cursed and has haunted her dreams for a while, so she researches on the same and finds the manor in Gloucester, Massachusetts. As the PlayStation Blog has reported, an eerie party called the Presence has been haunting the inhabitants of the home for generations -- and is now following Cassie.

What really sets “Perception” apart, however, is the cunning use of a handicap in order to make the game experience different. Cassie can only “see” her surroundings through echolocation. In order to activate the same, players must tap her cane or have her throw items, and they will then be provided temporary vision of what is directly in front of the character.

But like with most cat and mouse games, Cassie’s enemies will find her when she makes too much noise. On the other hand, this can also be used to the player’s advantage as throwing items further away will help distract enemies and point them towards the wrong location. The Presence, however, is smarter than all the other enemies, and gamers must use their wits to overcome it -- at times, Cassie can only hope to hide well enough to not be found.

There is no confirmation yet about the actual release date of “Perception." The game, which is coming from The Deep End Games, is the brainchild of several industry veterans, and the game is expected to provide a one of a kind experience.
