It’s no secret that Jamie will get seasick in “Outlander” season 3, which is something fans can read about in the book “Voyager.” But filming this scene was not a pleasant experience for Sam Heughan either, Diana Gabaldon explained in a recent interview.

The way Sam Heughan (Jamie) worked to get that urge to puke was revealed by Gabaldon in an interview with The Scottish Sun. There is a ship set in Cape Town, South Africa that has a mechanical rocking motion to simulate an ocean voyage. Standing on this set, with the constant rocking, it is enough to make the stomach churn.

But the TV series makers were taking no chances when it came to Heughan. On her last day in South Africa, Gabaldon met the actor one last time. The author revealed that the young man was not looking well. Upon her inquiry, he revealed that he had to film the seasickness scene, and for that he had been given some green tinted egg whites that had “the most disgusting vanilla essence in it.” The actor was supposed to hold this in his mouth till he felt like throwing up.

To add to the pain, Heughan apparently had six takes of this scene. Just before the sixth one, the actor looked at the greenish egg whites and said “f—k my life,” Gabaldon revealed. The author later pointed out how not so glamorous the life of an actor can be.

Apart from filming such disgusting scenes, Heughan also has to be in shape for the TV series. The actor may prefer the pain at the gym to filming the seasickness scene, but new videos released online show how demanding his workouts are. The actor goes to the gym even in South Africa despite his busy filming schedule. In the videos [see below], he can be seen promoting his My Peak Challenge initiative, which aims to help people across the globe to get fit.
