“Orange Is the New Black” season 5 episode 1 will answer all the burning questions that the previous season’s finale had left. Per reports, the series will pick up exactly from where it closed in season 4. It has also been known that all 13 episodes of season 5 will happen within a three-day course.

“OITNB” season 4 left with a jarring cliffhanger. A massive riot ensued the season finale that ended with the prison guards on their knees and Daya’s gun pointed at the head of Officer Humphrey (Michael Torpey). The death of an inmate, Poussey Washington (Samira Wiley), and the privatisation and overcrowding of the prison are what caused the riot. More tears will follow consequently, so will more dead bodies. But the question that perturbs viewers is whether or not Daya pulled the trigger. Season 5 will have the answer.

Per Movie News Guide, a released teaser video hints at a mutiny that’s brewing among the prison inmates. The girls’ facial expressions give out the tell-tale signs of what can be expected from the beginning of the upcoming season. Despite the fact that Poussey was accidentally killed by a white guard, stakes are high that a racial angle will be thrown in. Chaos will be in Litchfield Prison.

Danielle Brooks (Taystee) previously revealed to the Hollywood Reporter that Poussey’s death will have due effect on the inmates in “OITNB” season 5. The girls have time and again faced abuse at the hands of the prison guards. And now that her best friend Poussey is dead, Taystee has nothing to lose. “She lost everything that she cared so deeply about,” said Brooks. It’s war. It’s time to fight,” she added.

Furthermore, a rumour that’s currently in circulation among the series’ fans hints at the possibility that season 5 could be the last of Piper (Taylor Schilling). After Poussey’s death, it appears that none of the inmates are safe in Litchfield, reports Movie Pilot. It has also been said that the upcoming season will reveal why Black Cindy (Jezabel Adrienne C Moore) ended up in prison.

Netflix’s comedy drama "Orange is the New Black" is based on Piper Kerman's memoir, which details her own experiences as a prison inmate. The book was originally titled "Orange is the New Black: My Year in a Women's Prison."

Meanwhile, Netflix has announced the premiere date for “Orange Is the New Black” season 5. The show has been renewed through a seventh season. “Things will never be the same again,” the streaming giant has warned fans of the series’ upcoming season.

“Orange Is the New Black” season 5 arrives June 9 on Netflix. A release date for Australia has not been announced.
