A cheerleader for the American football team Oakland Raiders has filed a lawsuit against the said National Football League (NFL) team on Wednesday on behalf of the former and the current members of the Raiderettes.

The complainant, Lacy T., filed the lawsuit in the Superior Court of Alameda County, reported San Jose Mercury News. She asserted that the Raiders do not pay them the right amount of wages that she and the rest of the Raiderettes are entitled to receive. Furthermore, the lawsuit stated that the Raiders refused to pay the cheerleaders until the season is over. It also claims that the Raiderettes were held accountable to pay for infractions such as showing up on practice in the wrong rehearsal attires and with the wrong pom-poms, failing to turn in their written biographies on the dot, and even penalising them from not being able to bring a yoga mat during practice. How strict is too strict? Well, it is generally a good practice to be stern with your employees but to pay them under the minimum age and fine them for minor offenses, that's really something. It seems like the Raiders' management are running a very tight ship there, don't you think?

Sharon Vinick, the lawyer who represents Lacy T., said that the cheerleaders' yearly wage is equivalent to $1,250, which means that they get paid less than $5 per hour.

Another surprising claim is that the Raiders allegedly control the way their cheerleaders were supposed to look, in terms of hairstyle and make-up, but they never paid a single cent for it. "We also have to pay the costs for traveling to all kinds of events, including photo shoots," said Lacy T. She went on and said that even she loves the Raiders and being a cheerleader for the club, she felt she need to stand up for all the hardworking women of the NFL.

In a similar news report published by The Globe and Mail, Lacy T. said that she's optimistic that the football club will find ways to sort things out and ensure that every new cheerleader that comes aboard the Raiderettes team will not experience what she has suffered.

"I'm hoping that they change their policies and procedures for every Raiderette who comes after me, and maybe other NFL teams will do the same," said Lacy T.

Lacy T. worked as a cheerleader for the Raiders during the 2013-2014 season. The Raiders has reportedly not commented yet on the issue.

Wage theft is a serious matter. It is an obvious problem that every working individual face these days. Even the minimum wage doesn't guarantee that a person can get by with his or her everyday life. What do you think? Maybe the Raiders should cut the number of the cheerleaders in their club so they can afford to pay them the right amount of wages.
