Google’s latest and heavily anticipated Nexus smartphones, the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X, have just hit retail shelves and the buzz is the new Android handsets will beat its rivals to get to the top in 2016.

Critics have been speculating a lot about the new phones and have announced their verdicts now that they've gotten their hands on the new phones. Take a read:

Design

You'll love to have the Nexus 5X in hand since the phone weighs in only at 136 grams and measures 147 mm x 72.6 mm x 7.9 mm. You can quickly swipe the screen without feeling any strain on your fingers. Though LG and Google claim the phone's premium moulded polycarbonate body has a stupendous exterior design, many feel the plastic feels cheap when held.

On the other hand, Nexus 6P became an instant hit with customers and its all-metal body makes it look sleek and chic. It has an aluminium frame giving it a solid and robust exterior.

Defying conventional contours, the phone has smooth curves with chamfered corners at 90-degree angles that are smooth to the touch. You have options of silver, white and black when choosing colours for the phone, reports Tech FirstPost.

Display

Despite being sold at a budget price, the Nexus 5X has rather impressive features with its 5.2-inch full-HD display having pixel density of up to 423 ppi. On the other hand, the Nexus 6P has been praised for its excellent display and viewing experience. The screen offers AMOLED display experience with sharp pictures and high colour saturation settings. You may adjust colours using the developer settings and set it to sRGB mode to make it visually soothing.

Operating System

Both new devices carry the latest Android Marshmallow updates. The Now on Tap feature lets users explore anything they're watching or reading by gaining access to more information.

Camera

The Nexus 5X and the 6P both have a great 12.3 MP camera while the 6P features an 8MP sensor. According to reports in the TechTimes, the camera and battery capacity are much superior to its predecessors.

Processor

Powered by a six-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, the Nexus 5X is smart enough to handle pretty much everything, while the Nexus 6P equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 gets you power-packed performance with no compromises.

Price

Critics say it's well worth upgrading to these two phones and that makes shelling out $379 for the Nexus 5X and $499 for the Nexus 6P seem quite reasonable.
