The Detroit Pistons are reportedly exploring trade options for their team, but it would only be for a “clear step up in terms of talent,” according to head coach and president of basketball operations Stan Van Gundy.

"I like the chemistry and character of our group,” Van Gundy said, reports Michigan Live. “We won't make lateral moves or marginal moves because continuity is important.”

Van Gundy admitted that there has been less chatter at this point of the season compared with previous years, but he revealed that he and Pistons general manager Jeff Bower continue to monitor the market for potential key players who could further strengthen the team’s playoff push.

The Pistons will have the needed boost in their backcourt with Brandon Jennings set to play for the first time since rupturing his Achilles nearly 11 months ago and Jodie Meeks returning around February, according to ESPN. Bower also shares the same sentiment, insisting that Detroit is in a position where they can compete with the teams in the East.

"We’re at a point where we like how we’re playing, we feel we can compete with the teams in the Eastern Conference,” Bower told SiriusXM’s NBA Radio, according to The Detroit News. "[Jennings and Meeks] really haven’t played for us yet this year. When they do return, they probably can add more to our group than any player that we would make a trade for."

The Pistons are currently seventh in the Eastern Conference with a 16-12 record. However, if the Pistons are looking to keep their spot in time for the playoffs, they may need to make minor adjustments in their roster, with the East getting tougher, as 10 of 15 teams are posting above .500 in winning percentages. However, with a loaded backcourt, the Pistons may need to consider bolstering their frontcourt or wing position.
