MMA Fights To Keep An Eye On At ONE: Only The Brave

Jarred Brooks
Former UFC fighter Jarred Brooks will be making his ONE Championship debut against Lito Adiwang in November at ONE: NextGen III.

With a multitude of fights set to happen at ONE: Only The Brave, there are three matchups that mixed martial arts fans should definitely keep their eye on.

Kim Jae Woong vs. Tang Kai (ONE Featherweight Division)

Ahead of the heavily anticipated main event fights, No. 4-ranked featherweight Tang Kai of China will be facing the No. 1-ranked South Korean prospect in Kim Jae Woong.

Kim is currently on the warpath towards the ONE featherweight title after dispatching Tetsuya Yamada in the second round and former division king Martin Nguyen in just one round.

Nguyen’s eagerness to trade punches with Kim would turn out to be his downfall as the South Korean powerhouse caught him with a short right hand flush to the face leading into the ground-and-pound TKO finish.

As for the rising Chinese prospect, no one has been able to come close to matching his striking output and remains undefeated with the Singapore-based promotion in five fights.

Tang and Kim’s amazing striking abilities will be put to the test against each other in what many believe to be a war of strikers where whoever lands the most significant strike first will surely take home the victory.

Ruslan Emilbek Uulu vs. Zhang Lipeng (ONE Lightweight Division)

Before Tang and Kim’s epic striking encounter occurs, grapplers Ruslan Emilbek Uulu and Zhang Lipeng will both look to gain their second victory with ONE Championship.

Emilbek Uulu lost in his debut fight to Yoshiki Nakahara at ONE: Fists of Fury 2 before bouncing back in a major way against Pieter Buist thanks to his outstanding wrestling game.

Zhang is in the same boat as his upcoming opponent as his promotional debut was against former ONE lightweight titleholder Eduard Folayang and made it look easy as he neutralized the Team Lakay standard-bearer’s dynamic striking attacks with his ground control.

Both fighters will surely be banking on their strong ground games when the pair face off at ONE: Only The Brave, and fans will be treated to a stellar display of countermoves and takedowns from the grapple-heavy lightweights.

Jarred Brooks vs. Hiroba Minowa (ONE Strawweight Division)

To kick off the main card, No. 4-ranked strawweight Hiroba Minowa links up with No. 3-ranked Jarred Brooks in a potential title eliminator bout.

Minowa is coming off strong back-to-back victories against the likes of Lito Adiwang and former division kingpin Alex Silva after escaping near-submissions from both fighters.

The 22-year-old from Saitama, Japan believes that his unique skill set will give him the advantage over Brooks, but “The Monkey God” fired back comments of his own recently.

Brooks is no slouch himself as he relies on a wrestling-heavy style that he utilizes to perfection in order to negate his opponents’ striking game, best exemplified in his own victory over Adiwang in his promotional debut at ONE: NextGen 3.

Despite both fighters possessing strong grappling styles, fans can expect both of them to throw punches in order to see who flinches first and makes the mistake of exposing themselves to a potential knockout-ending sequence.

ONE: Only The Brave will be streaming live on the ONE Super App and the official ONE Championship YouTube channel at 8:30 PM SGT (7:30 AM ET in the United States) on Friday, January 28.
