Nineteen-year-old Yaasmeen Castanada from California suffered from burns inside out after having an allergic reaction to a medication that her friend gave her on Thanksgiving. The allergic reaction is life-threatening and is called Stevens-Johnson Syndrome.

According to the Daily Mail, after consuming the medicine, in a span of less than 24 hours, Yaasmeen, the mother of a four-month-old baby girl, was hospitalised and put on a ventilator. Her body had started breaking out in major blisters, and it looked like she had burned from head to the toe. She felt burning in her throat, eyes and mouth as well and her eyes became bloodshot. In addition to that, her lips were tearing off.

Yaasmeen, a student of civil engineering, is fighting for her life in the burns unit at UC Irvine Medical Center. She is covered in bandages. Her body has been 70 percent damaged and needs a blood transfusion as well. She would require physical, occupational, dermatology, nutrition, optical as well as burn therapy. She faces a long road to recovery which includes extensive rehab.

Laura Corona, her mother, said that her daughter had taken the medication with the hope that it will make her feel better. She said that Yaasmeen was unaware of the fact that the medication would be toxic for her.

Dr Lawrence Matt, a dermatologist, said that since there was an involvement of mucosal, it could be considered a burn from the inside out. He advised the public not to share medication and not to offer one's medication to someone else. He also advised that people should get themselves checked as well as their children because they are unaware of what they are allergic to.

Her mother told ABC that the dramatic turn in her daughter's life was heartbreaking. She explained that it was unreal watching her daughter burn in front of her, literally.

Yaasmeen's family are hoping that she would recover in time for Christmas celebration with the family. While speaking about the ordeal that their daughter is going through, they hope of warning others to be careful about what they are consuming.
